Meet Me in the Bathroom 2022 Directed by Will Lovelace, Dylan Southern An immersive journey through the New York music scene of the early 2000s. Set against the backdrop of 9/11, this documentary tells the story of how a new generation kickstarted a musical rebirth for New York City that reverberated around the world. My second NYC doc of the evening.
This one covers the musical explosion on the lower east side and Brooklyn in the late 90s and early 2000s led by The Strokes, Interpol and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. Although we didn't realize it at the time this was likely Rock N Roll's last stand as the dominant music in the culture. A very cool looking film.
Watch the Strokes Meet the Moldy Peaches in New Meet Me in the Bathroom ...
It really succeeds at capturing the mood, look and. the archival bts & performance footage is pretty interesting but it doesn't tell the entire story very well. i think you should still watch.
brimmed with musical nostalgia, Meet me in the bathroom works as a time capsule of this particular and brief period of time, encapsulating the hazy, muddy and sweaty look and feel of the underground artists and sub culture that emerged due to the complicated political and social background in 1999 to 2003. Feels sacrilegious that I didn't watch this on FUSE. I am such a mark for this content.

This music scene shaped my tastes as an early teen (from 1,700 miles away.) Had a grand time seeing all this behind the scenes footage but will also admit this doc isn't bringing much to the table beyond fan service and some cultural contextualization. Coming of age in the 00s was an insane thing to do. I grew up in New York during this time but was too young to experience the 00's indie rock scene.
So reading Meet Me in the Bathroom (the book that this doc is based off of) really filled in those moments I wished I had experienced as a fan. Yet seeing the book brought to life in this documentary with all of its audiovisual glory was much more of an all around great experience for someone. Meet Me in the Bathroom is a 2022 indie rock documentary film directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern.

It is based upon the 2017 book of the same name by Lizzy Goodman. The documentary focuses on the 'golden age' of the indie rock genre expansion which steamed from New York and how the effects of the September 11 attacks brought upon the American revival of rock music. The film focuses on.
The "barefoot diva", the iconic Cesária Évora in a documentary that shows never-before-seen footage and offers a never-before-explored view of the life of the Cape Verdean singer who, though not corresponding to the normal model of success, was able to overcome all the conditions that would normally keep her out of the limelight. This is the story of a black African woman, over fifty. Set against the backdrop of 9/11, this documentary tells the story of how a new generation kickstarted a musical rebirth for New York City that reverberated around the world.
